Forward Direction

As a second year Surface pattern Design student, I have gained a vast amount of knowledge and skills from technical, to hands on in a variety of disciplines. This has helped me further develop as a designer, and has given me an idea of the direction I want to go in. Without a doubt, I am a Maker, I love the challenge of working with different materials, whether it be paper or steel.

I have had my work shortlisted with Idott for two wallpaper designs, exhibited in two welsh museums and I am currently working with Orangebox on a live brief. What I love about this industry is that no two days are the same, I am always developing new ideas and projects.

Throughout the summer I have secured two work placements so far, within two different disciplines of surface pattern. One with local artist and lecturer at UWTSD, Julia Griffiths Jones, from which I can expand my knowledge of working with wire, as well as learning new skills such as welding. My second placement is with Anna Lewis Jewellery Designer and lecture at UWTSD.

Within my final year I am going to further develop my skills of working with different materials, and hopefully the extra knowledge I gain from my summer work placements, will be incorporated into my work creating new possibilities.

This course is constantly nurturing me into being a more confident designer, and one day I can see myself setting up my own business and displaying my work nationally.
